Chandeliers

Size it to the room. A simple rule: add the room's length and width in feet, and use that number in inches as a guide to the chandelier's diameter. A 12 x 14 ft room suits a fixture about 26 inches across.

Over a dining table. Choose a chandelier about half to two thirds the width of the table and hang the bottom 30-36 inches (75-90 cm) above the table top. Long tables often look better with a linear fixture or two smaller ones.

Low ceilings. In rooms with ceilings under 8 ft, choose a flush or semi-flush ceiling light rather than a hanging chandelier, and keep at least 7 ft of clearance in walkways. The Kaze wooden ceiling fan light combines light and airflow in one fixture.

Materials. Wood, like the Kanna wooden ribbon chandelier, adds warmth. Frosted and opal glass, like the Mochi glass chandelier, softens the light into an even glow.

Bulb colour. We recommend warm 2700K bulbs for living and dining rooms, ideally on a dimmer.

Add the length and width of the room in feet and use that number in inches as the approximate diameter. Over a dining table, choose a fixture about half to two thirds the table width.

Over a table, the bottom should sit 30-36 inches (75-90 cm) above the table top. In open areas and entrances, keep at least 7 ft of clearance between the floor and the lowest point.

With ceilings under 8 ft, a flush or semi-flush ceiling light is usually the better choice. A hanging chandelier works best over a table, where nobody walks underneath.

A Japandi chandelier keeps decoration to a minimum and relies on form and material: natural wood, stone, paper or frosted glass, a calm silhouette and warm, diffused light.
