Size to the wall. On a large empty wall or above a sofa, choose a statement piece like the Kōrin brass ring clock or the Tsuru oval clock. In a kitchen, hallway or above a door, a smaller clock reads better and keeps the wall calm.

Material. Walnut and solid wood add warmth and pair well with oak furniture and linen. Brass catches the light and suits darker walls. Frameless clocks, like Shizuku, place the numbers straight on the wall for a very light look.

Placement. Hang the clock at eye level or slightly above, roughly 60 to 70 inches (150 to 180 cm) to its centre. Above furniture, leave 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm) between the top of the piece and the clock.

Bedrooms. If ticking bothers you, check the product page for the movement type and choose a silent sweep movement for bedrooms and reading corners.

Desk clocks. A small wooden clock like Kobako works on a bedside table, desk or bookshelf where a wall clock would be too much.

A Japandi wall clock has a simple, uncluttered face, natural materials such as wood or brass and a calm, often organic shape. It works as a quiet piece of wall decor as well as a clock.

Hang it with its centre around eye level, about 60 to 70 inches from the floor. Above a sofa or console, leave 8 to 12 inches between the furniture and the clock.

Look for a sweep or silent movement in the product details. These move the second hand continuously instead of in ticking steps, which makes them suitable for bedrooms.

Fix the central movement to the wall first, then position each numeral using the included template or a level. Take your time with spacing, as even gaps are what make the design look clean.
