Details
Quiet from across the room, rich with texture up close.
The designs
- Shima. Shima means stripes. Five calm bands of hand-raised vertical ridges sit on a warm off-white canvas, like rows of reeds or the grain of old wood. Quiet from across the room, rich with texture up close.
- Ame. Ame means rain. Rows of raised teardrop dabs fall over a field of fine vertical marks, all in soft ivory and grey. A gentle, rhythmic piece that brings movement to a calm wall.
- Tsuchi. Tsuchi means earth. Hand-pressed cream strokes, vertical on one side and stacked on the other, sit on a weathered taupe-brown ground. Warm, grounded and quietly graphic.
- Ito. Ito means thread. A fine grid of raised cream cells, each pressed by hand, floats inside a wide plain border. Minimal, architectural and very calm.
- Tatami. Named after the woven mats of a Japanese room, Tatami is nine panels of fine raised ridges that alternate direction like a weave. Tone on tone in off-white, it is all about light and shadow.
- Suna. Suna means sand. Columns of raised cream marks are laid over a sandy, weathered ground with soft speckles, like footprints on a beach at low tide.
- Ishi. Ishi means stone. Rows of raised pebble-like dabs fade into fine lines below, all on a warm bronze-brown ground. Earthy and tactile, with real depth.

Good to know
Each canvas is painted for your order, so texture and spacing vary slightly from the photos. That is the point of wabi-sabi: beauty in the hand-made and imperfect. Framed canvases arrive stretched and ready to hang; unframed canvases arrive rolled in a tube.
Care
- Dusting. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or a feather duster. Never use water, cleaning sprays or a damp cloth on the paint.
- Light. Hang it out of strong direct sunlight to protect the colors.
- Humidity. Avoid bathrooms, kitchens and spots above radiators or fireplaces.
- Unrolling. If you chose unframed, unroll it gently when it arrives and let it rest flat for a day before stretching or framing.

Wabi Sabi Textured Painting
Hand-painted to order
Every ridge is pressed by hand
The vertical ridges are built up with a palette knife and thick texture paste, band by band, so each one catches the light a little differently.
Why it is worth it
Real paint. Real texture.
This is not a print with a gloss of gel on top. Every canvas is built up by hand with palette knives and thick texture paste, so the light catches every ridge and the piece changes through the day.
Nothing sits in a warehouse. Your canvas is painted from scratch after you order, in 5-10 days.
We send you a photo of your finished painting before it ships. It leaves the studio only once you are happy.
Because every mark is made by hand, ridges and spacing vary slightly. No two canvases are exactly alike.
Choose a stretched canvas in a black, natural or white floating frame, ready to hang, or a rolled canvas to frame locally.

Our return promise →FAQs
Is it really hand-painted?
Yes. Every canvas is painted by hand after you order, using palette knives and thick texture paste. Nothing is printed.
Will I see it before it ships?
Yes. When your painting is finished we email you a photo. It only ships once you are happy with it.
How long does it take?
Painting takes 5-10 days. After your approval, delivery takes 3-7 business days with tracking.
Framed or unframed?
Framed canvases are stretched on wooden bars and set in a solid wood floating frame in black, natural or white, ready to hang. Unframed canvases ship rolled in a tube for you to stretch or frame locally.
Which size should I choose?
Aim for about two thirds of the width of the sofa, bed or console below it. 35 x 35 in or 39 x 39 in suits most sofas; 47 x 47 in and up, to 60 x 60 in, makes a statement on a large wall.
Will mine look exactly like the photo?
It will be the same design, colors and composition. Because it is painted by hand, the exact ridges and spacing vary slightly, so yours is one of a kind.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes, standard shipping is free on all orders over $149.
What is your return policy?
You can return any item within 30 days of delivery if it is unused and in its original packaging. If something arrives damaged or defective, return shipping is on us. For change-of-mind returns, return shipping is paid by the customer. See our Return Policy for details.
How can I track my order?
Use the link in your shipping confirmation email, or enter your order number on our Track Order page.
What if my order arrives damaged or faulty?
Contact us within 30 days of delivery with a photo of the issue and we'll send a replacement at no cost. See our Return Policy for details.
Can I cancel or change my order?
Yes, within 24 hours of placing it. Just email us and we'll update or cancel the order before it ships.

Bedding FAQs
Which size should I choose?
Size your duvet cover to your duvet insert, not just your bed frame, so it fills the cover without bunching. Size names vary between the US, UK and EU (an EU 200 x 220 cm is not the same as a US Queen), so check the exact measurements in the Size Chart on each product before ordering. If you are between sizes, go one size up for a fuller, hotel-style drape.
Is a duvet insert included?
No. Our bedding sets are covers only: duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases. Duvet inserts, comforters and pillows are sold separately, such as our goose down duvets and pillows.
What's the difference between a flat and a fitted sheet?
A fitted sheet has elasticated corners that hug the mattress and stay in place, which is the most popular choice in the US. A flat sheet is a plain rectangle you tuck in, common in Europe and good for layering. Where a product offers both, choose under Sheet Type.
What comes in a 4-piece vs a 6-piece set?
A 4-piece set usually includes one duvet cover, one sheet and two pillowcases. A 6-piece set adds two more pillowcases or a second sheet, depending on the design. The exact contents for every set are listed in the product description and Size Chart.
Linen, cotton, Egyptian cotton or silk: which is right for me?
Linen is breathable and temperature-regulating, with a relaxed, textured look that suits a Japandi bedroom. It is ideal if you sleep warm. Cotton is soft, smooth and easy-care. Egyptian cotton uses longer fibres for a silkier, more durable weave. Silk and Tencel blends feel cool and glossy and are gentle on hair and skin.
Will linen bedding feel rough or wrinkle?
Natural linen has a soft, lived-in crumple, and that relaxed texture is part of its charm. It gets softer with every wash. If you prefer a smoother look, remove it from the dryer while slightly damp and smooth it by hand, or iron on a medium setting.
How do I wash and care for my bedding?
- Linen and cotton: machine wash at 30-40°C (86-104°F) on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Tumble dry low or line dry.
- Silk: hand wash cold or use a delicates bag on a silk cycle, then dry flat away from direct sun.
- Wash darker colours separately for the first few washes.
- Avoid bleach and fabric softener. Softener coats natural fibres and reduces their breathability.
Will it shrink?
Natural fibres can shrink slightly in hot water or a hot dryer. Washing at 40°C or below and drying on low heat keeps shrinkage to a minimum, and the sizes we list already allow for normal care.
Duvet cover closure: buttons or zipper?
It depends on the design. Some covers close with buttons and some with a hidden zipper, and a few products let you choose. You can find this under the product options or in the product description.
Will the colour look the same as on my screen?
We photograph our bedding in natural light to keep colours as true as possible, but every screen displays colour slightly differently. Natural fibres like linen can also vary a little from batch to batch.
How long does bedding take to arrive?
Bedding ships from a dedicated bedding partner with a faster courier and arrives in 3-7 business days to the US, Canada, UK, EU and Australia. You'll receive a tracking link by email as soon as it ships. Standard shipping is free on orders over $149.
Can I return bedding?
Yes. You can return bedding within 30 days of delivery. For hygiene reasons it must be unused, unwashed and in its original packaging. Items that arrive damaged or defective are replaced free of charge. See our Return Policy for details.
